Stone Boy by Chris Schweizer

Dag Wentim, aka Stone Boy, is the next subject in my continuing series of Legion of Substitute Heroes watercolor commissions from Chris Schweizer's Patreon rewards. Dag has the ability to turn his body to a stone-like substance. He cannot move while in stone form (at least in most continuities), and has been used as a weapon by the other Subs a few times. Stone Boy has been my favorite Sub ever since I read the story where he was offered membership in the Legion of Super-Heroes (Adventure Comics #315), which was also the second Legion story I ever read. I asked Chris to draw him here and I think that he did an outstanding job. Whenever Dag turns to stone, sometimes his costume changes and sometimes it doesn't, and Chris did a great job showing it slowly turning to stone after Dag's body has already changed. Maybe the costume just takes longer to change. Then again, maybe not, but I like this theory. I also like that it looks like Dag is trying to stop something here, maybe a villain or a vehicle. He's jumped in front of it and is making himself an almost unmovable obstacle. Anyway, I really dig the thought Chris put into this one and I cannot thank him enough for his continuing efforts in this series of Subs!
