Description

Nice, early Terry featuring Normandie Drake and Caniff's signature blue wash. I love the Terry and April romance story line but before all that there was the Normandie and Pat Ryan story line which is also a favorite. Here Normandie laments her attraction to the rugged Pat Ryan. In the background an intruder lurks. As much as people like Burma (and I do too), I always thought Pat should have ended up with Normandie. Just when things start to heat up with Normandie and Pat, she is stolen by her family to prevent their relationship only to see her married to the loathsome and cowardly Sandhurst. The ill fated relationship of Pat and Normandie left both of them longing for each other but the social morals and bond of wedlock kept them apart. Here we see Normandie before all that as we see her and Pat start to fall in love. Sigh...so much drama.

I agree with you, Jeff. Normandie had thta girl-next-door vibe, but I guess Caniff would find more drama with Burma and the Dragon Lady. Such sweet early stuff.

Beautiful, delicate drawing in this one. I always thought the Normandie arc showed the real genius of Caniff, avoiding the expected, not afraid to twist the knife occasionally.
