DescriptionOn this page, the alien suit reveals that it is actually alive! After Peter falls asleep in a chair, his costume leaps across the room and bonds to him and takes him out web-slinging while he sleeps. I remember reading this comic for the first time and being really intrigued when the last two panels showed that Peter was really actually sleeping, and not in control of his own body. Up until this point, I think we were all just enjoying the fact that Peter had a really cool costume that listened to his every command. None of us knew where this story would lead, that later in the issue Reed Richards would determine that the costume was a sentient alien being, and in the years to follow, that very alien being would eventually become VENOM !! Flash forward 34 years. Venom now has a rich history, an amazing new ongoing series illustrated by my hero Ryan Stegman, and in two short days, a MOVIE PREMIERE! Good times! Social/Sharing |

Monumental addition to your collection! This is one of those issues that really stuck with me, and so many other, and of course had far reaching repercussions! All depicted quite nicely in this reveal! Congrats, and thanks for sharing!

Man, this is really awesome. Great moment in the black costume saga and a great piece of art in and of itself! This is the time when I had just started getting into comics and this storyline was intriguing to say the least! Congrats, Paul!

The alien symbiote isn't evil. It seen Peter sleeping in a very uncomfortable position (who sleeps like that?) and decided he needed a little exercise to work out the muscles and stretch the back.

John, that is an excellent point ...It's like when you fall asleep on a plane with your head in an unnatural position, and you wake up with excrutiating neck pain. The symbiote was clearly performing an extreme act of kindness for Peter in a similar situation. Poor misunderstood little alien ... Just goes to show how "no good deed goes unpunished."

While Venom is a very striking looking design, I still have an even larger fondness for the pages from this pre-Venom era, when the symbiote was simply an organic being with a mind of its own, as I'd spend every issue looking forward to the next one, to see what the symbiote might do the next time Peter wore it. The combination of writing and art during this era was just perfect. Congrats on getting such a sweet and memorable page!

Is this really the page where we see the symbiote moving for the first time?! Okay, I don't have any jokes for this one.
