Description
My last couple of posts were Iron Man pieces so I thought I’d keep it going with this recent get from Cadence Comic Art. The newest iteration of the Iron Man title was rung in with (surprise, surprise) a lot of issue 1 variants. A big chunk of those were single shots of different armors by Valerio Schiti, a Marvel Young Guns alum from 2014. A little overkill on the variants, maybe, but got some nice pin ups out of it and this one’s moi’s!

My favorite armor is the Silver Centurion in general (see my last 2 posts!) but in terms of the actual pieces Schiti did I liked the Classic Red and Gold, the Bleeding Edge, and the Stealth most. I wasn’t paying enough attention when these were initially posted so missed out on the first 2 but I’m glad to have picked up this one. It’s not big at 9x12 but these were drawn to only fit a portion of the published cover.

There’s a lot I liked about this one. The original Stealth was one of the first big departures from the traditional red and gold and mostly in terms of color – I actually like that in terms of design the differences are subtle tweaks. Second, and what I like most, are the crisp inks, both in terms of the lines and the solid spot/block blacks – a heavier dark balance that’s apt for this particular armor! Third, the pose is perfect – says “Stealth”. Lastly, I love the glint effect on the left eye and chest piece. The colored version looks pretty cool, too (see additional image). Thanks, Valerio and Paolo!

I have become a fan of Valerio Schiti's work, and this is an excellent rendition of Tony's stealth armor.  There is a great ominous & foreboding kind of feel to the piece, and I love the pose.

Yeah, Davide, the more I look at it the more I'm impressed with the inks.  And to your point, Paul, I think Schiti continues to improve.  And John - I think I figured out what you were trying to say...those first 2 words are tripping me up a little ;)  Seriously, though, thanks for the comments, all - always appreciated!

Yeah there’s something about the spot blacks that makes this piece attractive. Maybe it’s because the stealth armor is meant to absorb light and not reflect it, which is not what we’re used to seeing, giving this a fresh take on Iron Man.

Yup, ‘tis I, Jason!  And I agree - Schiti’s been leveling up as of late!  Had to pick up an example and this was definitely one of the better armor variant pieces he did, IMO.  Thanks for the comments on my Iron Man pieces, man!
