Description

This Wrightson Batman piece is most likely circa 1990 just like all of his similar sketches and layouts from that time period when Bernie was working on creating a Batman portfolio that unfortunately never saw print. Another masterpiece from the master.

Although this sketch is not an exact layout for the finished piece, I believe this layout to be one of the predecessors to the finished plate in my home gallery. Same overall content and theme, same background arch, same flowing cape... you can see the changes that Bernie made from this piece to my inked piece though... he extended the gargoyle outward and changed Batman's pose a bit.

Nice sample from his project! I never knew these pencil pieces were created for a portfolio.

Beautiful even in a layout style - the potential in that finished piece you can see so clearly!

Yeah, Bernie's layouts are gorgeous. They seem so refined even though they are still fairly "rough" when closely analyzed. This piece has such a great overall flow to it and the style and details of Batman and the gargoyle shine through with clarity.
