Description

For those that may only suspect it, Scott Hanna is an inking STUD. He is the Inkwell Award "Favorite Inker" winner in 2017, 2018, PROPS AWARD winner (deserving more attendtion) in 2017, and "Most Adaptable" in 2018. And a BUNCH of nominations throughout the years. Scott is so good and his inks look great on EVERY type of pencils. I was thrilled that he was able to work me in to his VERY busy schedule. Once the inks were done, I asked him about working on the Wrightson Prelim.

"Since I had met Bernie several times and he was a strong inspiration, it was quite intimidating to work over him. I treated the characters more like his comics work, and treated the background with a bit of his Frankenstein type style. The background was the part saved for last as it was fun, but challenging to live up to Wrightson."

And in a different online chat, I asked about his work on a different piece that he created .
"Tone is the key to all traditional inking. Everything is black ink. Foreground has more brushwork for darker values, background I used more pen line for lighter values and thinner lines." Well THAT sure sounds easy, doesn't it?!?!?

Really nice job. Love the Booth-y/Wrightson-esque crosshatching.

Thanks for the note, Steve. I agree that Scott put some Bernie into this piece. I don't know if you can see it from the scan, but if you look at the tomb stone to the right of Kyle/GL, you can see an ARROW in the crosshatching. I haven't asked Scott if that was on purpose, but I gotta think it is.
