Avengers #01 Sketch Cover Recreation

This was a commission and will be the final such effort when it comes to cover art. The artist wanted a recreation of Avengers #4, which brought Steve Rogers aka Captain America back to the land of the living. Because I wanted this cover to have some of me incorporated, I took some liberties to deviate from the original design. The storm clouds, for example, I felt were necessary if Thor was spinning that hammer around. Second, lightning effects were accomplished via a white gel pen and white-out; I also had it touch the ground and react to anything metallic, such as Iron Man's armor. And lastly, I decided to throw in a sunset behind the team. Beyond that it was a matter of guesswork as to best accentuate Kirby anatomy with copic tones. Overall I'm as satisfied with the final result as my client. However, again, the next time I do a cover recreation it will be my own figure designs.
