DescriptionContinuing with my "Spidey week" posts ...I remember when all the framed variant Marvel covers came out in 2009. And I remember being especially taken with this Amazing Spider-Man cover. Just having a big and bold image of Spidey in his black costume, in a classic pose, complete with webbing ... it was so striking. Add to that the way that Mike Mayhew brought such a nice sheen & fluidity to the costume. It just added a dose of realism to the image. So a few years back, when I was able to acquire the original art to that memorable cover, I was thrilled. And I'm excited to share it with all of you. (And note how Mike had the webbing trail off into his signature -- he is such a creative genius) I had an overlay added with the title logos and framed border (which is my main picture), but I have also included a pic of the artwork without the overlay. As you mention, I really like the fluid black sheen Mayhew gave the costume. Very nice! The creative "signature into the webbing" thing is also really cool.

Oh man, what an addition to Spidey week! One of my favorite Mayhew pieces, man! Great pose and you gotta love how Mayhew exhibits all of the musculature and subsequent lighting with his black costume rendition! Congrats!

I guess it's a Marvel tradition, they had similar framed cover before. For example Spidey 282 which also featured a black Spidey. Very cool. The signature is awesome.
