DescriptionOddball, I know, but Scooby-Doo and Batman have a bit of a history. That being said, Daphne raiding Barbara Gordon's closet made sense when I got the commission request. Etched on 9 x 12" with mixed media, I tapped into the thinking of the 1960's Adam West series with the background, and the type of Batgirl suit to put on the Scooby gang's resident damnsel in distress. Yvonne Craig's suit was not only perfect in style, but also the purple tone was closest to Daphne's colors. As for her hair - a combination of Y11, Y38, and YR16 and prismacolor hard line orange tones - I kept Micron blacks to a minimal because I needed that organic feel. I wanted to go for simplicity in the composition so that Daphne would be the central focus. Plus Hanna-Barbera wasn't known for photorealism so I skated that line as best I could. It was all about light and shadow, so I incorporated multiple blue-violet tones on the suit and decided to throw in the cowl flying off of Daphne's face since she's not exactly the most put together person in a crisis that doesn't involve cosmetics. B93 was used to convey shadow on the body as she was in a descent; it also served to indicate she was in a beam of light and inadvertedly created a sense of motion as well. This was a fortuitous order because after the bondage-style sketch I needed to give this girl some strength back. Standing and posing didn't cut it. Anyway, I'm really proud of this piece because I managed to achieve a balance of both an animated character and my photorealistic style. Plus it's the quickest I've managed to put together. More to come, same bat-time, same bat-channel.Social/Sharing |
