Description
Latest "Continuation Project" commission - issue #121, art by new-for-me artist Peter Clinton, based as always on the cover of a comic written, plotted or scripted by Roy Thomas, in this case Avengers West Coast #80, original art by David Ross and Tim Dzon.
These are appearing a bit out of order, so while I'm trying to avoid too many spoilers, I'm afraid some are unavoidable. Sorry!
Title: "Time Out Of Joint"
Story: Following Per Degaton's intervention in the timestream in #120, the JSA were never formed and all mystery-men were outlawed in late 1940. However, with many still active, Degaton moves to the next phase of his plan. Although still unable to travel further into the future than the early 1950s, Degaton recruits an army of super-villains and, with time in flux, unleashed themon heroes across the Golden Age.
The Icicle defeats Bulletman and Bulletgirl; Superman's first costumed foe The Archer captures The King; Deathbolt is victorious over the Guardian; and young heroine Black Canary is caught up in Starman's epic battle with the robotic Mr Atom.
Elsewhere, other heroes battle in vain - Superman falls before the combined might of Black Adam, Solomon Grundy, Giganta and IBAC; the sorcerous power of the Wizard, Wotan, the Blue Lama, and Zor overcomes the Spectre; the Huntress captures Liberty Belle while Johnny Quick succumbs to the speed of the Rival; the Sportsmaster easily defeats Mr Terrific, Mr America and Judomaster.
Across the entire decade, heroes fall before the onslaught of super-powered villains --- and Degaton's goal of a world without heroes comes ever closer!
To be continued --- next issue!
Pete did a phenomenal job on this one for me, with a cast of even-more-obscure-than-usual characters, and I hope he'll be doing more covers for me in future.
