About the author.
Daan Jippes
(Danier)
(b. 14/10/1945, The Netherlands)

Daan Jippes began his career in the layout division at the Geïllustreerde Pers. His first comic, ' Hipper', appeared in the magazine Revu in 1967 and 1968. He then joined the magazine Pep, where he did lay-outs and cover illustrations, as well as some 'Pepspotters'. After a short story in cooperation with Willy Lohmann, Jippes teamed up with Martin Lodewijk to create the 'Bernard Voorzichtig' character. Only one story appeared of the character, called ' Twee voor Thee'. After the publication in Pep in 1972, it appeared in album at Oberon a year later.

While still working for Pep, Jippes illustrated covers and an occasional story for the Dutch Donald Duck weekly and De Flintstones. In 1975, Jippes became art director of the production of Dutch Disney comics. The Dutch production had started in 1969, but gained in quality under Jippes' guidance. In 1980, Jippes went to the USA to work for Disney's animation sector. Jippes has a vivid style which has nearly the same quality as Carl Barks' drawings.

When he returned to The Netherlands, he worked for the now-cancelled enterprise Peekeldam - a planned Dutch version of Disneyland. He continued to do an occasional Duck story, mainly on old Barks scenarios for the album collection 'De Beste Verhalen uit Donald Duck'.

In 1999, he became art director of the Studio Jan Kruis for a couple of years, that continues to produce 'Jan, Jans en de Kinderen' for the female magazine Libelle. In 2001, Daan Jippes won the Stripschapsprijs. In 2005, he began working on a comics adaptation of the 'Havank' detective stories, which he signs with Danier, for the journal Algemeen Dagblad.
