DescriptionI have friends in the comic art collecting hobby who are, to all outward appearances, well adjusted and rational people. I, on the other hand, seem to be motivated by an anomalous genetic disorder that often causes me to experience our hobby as a series of jigsaw puzzle pieces to be joined together. For instance, I am driven to find the left side of a Daredevil double-page spread from 1972; one missing panel and the topper from a sixty-eight year old Sunday page; and there are three 10-page stories from 1970 that I am passionately (and delusionally) attempting to reunite. There are many more comics that I'm seeking pages from for aesthetic and nostalgic reasons. But, if I know someone else is attempting to reunite the story, I'll step aside and send a referral to the other collector. Some collectors share this entente cordiale, some are indifferent or opportunistic, and others are hostile, as it centralizes pages to individual super-fans and denies everyone a chance to enjoy their own examples (ignoring the fact that the art is subsequently available to enjoy on CAF, in reprint volumes, and even in artist edition books). That's a maundering ramble to preface that I only acquired this Buscema/DeZuņiga Savage Sword of Conan #50, page 33 because I've had pages 32 and 34 for many years and always wanted to find the missing middle page to complete a triptych (that few others would find of interest). No babes, no beasts, no blood. But, finding this page does satisfy that deeply rooted hunter/gatherer instinct, in a way that choosing between seven hundred varieties of breakfast cereal at the grocery store can't fulfill. I didn't say it was a good story. Social/Sharing |

I...begin to understand, milord. You have the sequential disease a lot of us have. :) I think it's cool that your drive is to get some bits of these stories back together. A laudable goal. And I like this particular story of intrigue. Thanks for sharing! Cool JB Conan page! Congrats

You're not the only driven completist in the hobby, but you write the best copy, hands down. But what is less rational, to acquire individual pages from an outstanding story, or to (try to) reassemble the full tale? Even if a story is lacking overall, the storytelling from panel-to-panel and page-to-page is great for anything Buscema touched in this era, IMHO. This is a super page, BTW! I love DeZuniga's inks on the great Bronze Age pencilers.

If it's any consolation, I hear that Pfizer is working on a vaccine for people with the very genetic disorder you describe. Perhaps it will help other collectors avoid the conditon you suffer from.
