Cowgirl Garnet

Truth be told this has been the most challenging commission to date because of my lack of knowledge of "Steven Universe." Etched on 11 x 14 Etson with mixed media, here we have Garnet as a gunslinger. Given the original character model is a cartoon, it took some guesswork to translate the design into a more realistic appearance. From other art samples of Garnet, I learned that she has African-American features, hence the texture of her afro. As for the trench coat, I went for a leathery texture, so a near-dry micron brush provided that faded black that gave that brushed metal finish. The inked version can be found in this gallery as well for more details. For the background, I borrowed the star from the Steven Universe logo because I couldn't leave it with just a white field. Because Garnet is a composite being, I toyed with the idea of putting the silhouettes of both halves of her but time constraints wouldn't allow. I'm really proud of the final rendering and I hope my client will feel the same.
