Description

C.C. Beck made significant changes in the color scheme for this 1978 recreation based on the cover of Whiz Comics No. 51 (Fawcett, February 1944), which can readily be seen by comparing the painting to the original, printed, comic book cover. Thank Goodness! Of course, Beck undoubtedly had no involvement in choosing the colors for the comic book, since covers during the Golden Age were chose by the publishers staff so that new comics could be easily distinguished on the newsstand from earlier issues of a title which were still available for sale. When it came to coloring his recreations, Beck could choose whatever colors he preferred and was not limited to whatever decisions had been made by ohers in earlier decades.
