DescriptionI was a fan of the early Kurt Busiek written issues of Thunderbolts and fell in love with this piece when I saw it up for sale on eBay. It's a full page cover quality splash, done fairly early in Declan Shalvey's career. I discovered his work fairly recently on the Jonathan Hickman X-books and have been very impressed. For some weird reason, Marvel published this in Thunderbolts issue #163.1, which came out in November 2011, between issues #163 and 164. Maybe someone can explain what that was all about, but this issue retells their origin in flashbacks and was potentially intended as a good jumping on point for new readers. The art board has a vertical crease on the right hand side, but it doesn't detract from the art too much. Social/Sharing |

Those point one issues just goes in depth on one aspect of the current storylines to provide a jumping on point. I would venture to guess that it has a recap of the team's history as this has an iconic early issue lineup. Shalvey does a great job of capturing that same excitement when the T-Bolts came on the scene in the vaccuum of the Avengers Disassembled storyline.

Thanks Marcus. I'll have to check out some of the other .1 issues as I wasn't actively reading comics at that time.
