Description

I'm much more of a Marvel than DC guy, but I enjoyed Jack Kirby's 4th World stories and was intrigued when Jim Starlin (who I'm a big fan of) decided to write and draw a mini-series featuring these characters. I also really like the layout of this page, featuring two symmetrical fight scenes on-top of a larger panel.

In this scene, Superman and Orion are fighting Mr. Miracle (Scott Free), who's been taken over by the Anti-Life Equation. Weird stuff, but well executed!

I've included a published image for reference. I have mixed feelings about the computer coloring and effects. It probably works better here than in most cases, but in some ways the original image is more powerful without all of the effects taking your attention away from the solid storytelling.

The composition and layout is as bold as a Kirby Fourth World story demands. The computer effects is like decorating a Christmas tree.

Always a big treat whenever Starlin draws Superman. I feel like Starlin gives Superman a classic look that would stand nicely next to the Silver Age greats like Curt Swan.

Who's not a fan of massive uppercuts? Well, other than Mr Anti-life Miracle, but I think we can give him a pass. I was a big Kirby fourth world fan, too, and I enjoyed Starlin's take. And 100% agreed, the published page loses some oomph with the cartoony digital effects. Your page has no such issue, tho. Congrats!
