DescriptionReally cool, very meta opening page from this near-forgotten Alan Moore/Jim Baikie gem!The First American and his nonchalant 'sidekick' U.S. Angel take turns writing their own script in this one, and the results are both unpredictable and hilarious! First appearance of the Next American! Fact! Check out the published page - it's a humorous twist on Moore's love of breaking the fourth wall: "This is a DELUSIONAL tale, which may never occur, or, then again, definitely won't. It is IMAGINARY, unlike the others, which really happened." Starts off bonkers, and gets full-steam crazy. And Jim Baikie's art on this is an unfettered joy! Social/Sharing |

This is his commentary on how his comics are turned into movie scripts. Moore hates everything about them and disavows the movies because they are by fan boys and bottom line types who don't really understand anything about the context and meaning. They are there to use his name and characters to do cool movie action scenes and profit.

I agree that no-one has done Moore's characters, concepts or stories justice on the screen - most have fallen VERY far short! I also think this is a glorious romp in it's own way, pinwheeling through subjects as wide as racial hero and villain tropes, blatant sexism and oversexualisation of female characters, death by chrolophyl and Starsky and Hutch porn!
I think Mr Moore had a LOT of fun writing his Tomorrow Stories....😁😁😁

Definitely. He was able to use his platform to make his stance known! Baikie is great at delivering the art in this!

Moore and Balkie packed a ton of meta-commentary into this page! Moore's subtle satire is really a joy, and Balkie was a perfect artist choice here. Just that image with the exaggerated heroine at the typewriter has a lot of levels of commentary. What a cool page. Congrats!

Absolutely agreed! The venerable Mr Moore has so many layers to what he does, and whether he's lending his considerable skills to horror, action, eros or comedy, he does it with utter panache. He also has a way of bringing out the best in his artists - it's a delight to see his thought processes rendered so well in Baikie's fluid and masterful style.
