Straight to the point and very direct! Sal Buscema shows what we expect and what we want for a timeless classic image.
Really great commission choice! Such a memorable image!
You know I love this and I bet its massive image is even more impressive in person and on the wall! Great choice going with the original portrait.
Thanks TC, I know you are a big fan of this image as well. Original portrait was never even a choice really. I knew I wanted this from the day decided to get one made. Thanks!!
I hope you are lucky enough to find the original someday. But that certainly doesn't mean you can't enjoy this piece every day for the rest of your life. Congratulations on a very special commission.
Thanks Eric, this original would be the true definition of grail in the most leteral sense for this hobby. I appreciate your well wishes and absolutely will enjoy this daily on the wall. Thanks so much my friend!
Great recreation and Dave i hope you also find the original some day.
Thanks, that would be a dream come true!
Wow this must look spectacular on the wall! Great job getting Sal Buscema to recreate such an iconic image!
this is beyond incredible, such a amazing piece in your collection.
Wow -- so great! Congrats on getting this while Sal was still taking commissions!
a great piece of art, and a dream fulfilled. an excellent post to be sure!
Congrats on scratching this itch, Dave!
Really great idea for a commission. My appreciation for Sal Buscema just keeps growing as time goes by (and I say this as someone who wrote a complaint letter to Marvel in 1996 when Sal stopped doing Spectacular Spider-Man because I wanted him back on the book).
I wrote a similar letter many times when Sal left the Hulk. The only problem is that I only wrote them in my mind and never put pen to paper and sent to Marvel. There is a brotherhood of Sal Buscema fans who feel the pain of him leaving our favorite book(s). I stand in solidarity with you!
Now that's an awesome commission! Congrats!
Really great story and awesome art! Thanks for sharing Dave!
Nice choice, and a great image as others have said. It takes you right back to the excitement of finding the comics on a newsstand or in a box in a comic shop.
Fantastic!
That's just incredible (pun intended), no doubt it's just gorgeous in person. Well done!
Oh wow so great - nice addition!
The man will simply never lose his talent. He just keeps putting out this fantastic, high-quality work. That's a great quest to have, but how cool is it that you were able to get him to even recreate his original process? And it looks awesome. Good luck on the quest, but I think you found yourself something to tide you over a bit. :) Big congrats!
Sal's level of skill still on display is absolutely remarkable, I totally agree - he hasn't shown any signs of slipping! Thanks for the well wishes as well - this will certainly fill the void to a great degree if I am never able to find the original art. I feel extremely fortunate as shortly after this was completed, I believe it has been announced that Sal might not be doing larger and/or complex commissions any longer.
Excellent commission!!
Oh, great get, Dave, pulling at them nostalgic strings :) Most of us remember this corner image/pose distinctly, and if you the original art doesn't exist or can't be found, this will work just fun in its stead I'm sure. Big congrats!
How have I not commented on this piece. I am blaming my jealous of it. Also love the frame up.
This is an iconic image. I may have an issue or two of the Hulk with tracing indentations on it from little 10 yr old me trying to copy this pose. Never knew Sal designed this!
That's great - I have probably ruined a fair share of cover this way as well. Yep, all Sal (until they replaced the head later with a John Romita version). Thanks!
