Description

My grandparents were antique collectors/dealers, and at some point in my youth, they bought me this original Mutt & Jeff at a flea market. The condition isn't great, but the content is cool - from before the US entered W.W. I "No matter where your sympathies are in the Great War, there is no doubt that each side believes themselves in the right..." And of course it has great sentimental value for me, reminding me of my grandparents each time I look at it.

Mutt and Jeff enlisted when the USA joined the war, but obviously hadn't yet when this strip was drawn: so whose uniform are they wearing here?

Trench warfare was a horror and Fisher displays the no man's land as bare starkness devoid of life.
