Description

At a party at my friend Howard's house sometime in the mid-'90s, he offered me (and others) pages from a stack of recent-ish art. I chose this Black Kiss page for its intricate but almost architecturally solid composition, using black as color (on the clothing and book cover) and cast shadows from the shelves. A balance of graphic activity and compositional stability, vertically book-ended (if there is such a thing) by the repeated panels of the car in front of the shop, top and bottom. Thanks Howard! (I couldn't resist snagging two pages, I'll post the other tomorrow)

Nice grouping of panels on the left and the illusion of them on the right side with shelving to balance the page design. He has the first panel mirror the last one to do the same vertically.
