Description“I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.” — Victor Von DoomMay “Mayday” Parker was a great concept. The next generation of Spidey, with all of her next gen baddies, too. And that Ben Reilly costume design was a great choice, imo, as both an homage and a cool step forward with the design for Spidey’s daughter. My impromptu Birthday Week continues with another fun gift. Sal Buscema and Ron Frenz together on a Spider Title is a no-brainer. Two of the best artists to tackle our favorite wall-crawler come back to do it once again? Yeah, here’s my money. In this scene, we have Mayday in a fast-paced battle with Quickwire, a baddie whose origin is in this title (#53), and Big Man (Henry Pym Jr!). Frenz did the breakdowns, with Sal doing the finishes, and you can see both of their styles clearly. I love that first edge-to-edge-panel, with May jumping right off of the page. These guys know how to handle Spidey Angles like no one’s business, that’s for sure. The page has great Spider-Girl action throughout. Thanks again to my spectacular family. I have one last post for Birthday Week, and it’s another Frenz piece… Social/Sharing |

You nailed it in the description, Frenz and Buscema together on this is a home run. Fun action page with lots of Spidey poses. Congrats!

Nice! Spider-Girl looks so fragile next to these bad guys, but we all know she can kick some ass!

An excellent choice by the family! Who wouldn't love to receive this as a gift? I love the Frenz/Buscema combo as well, though I have an aversion to newly created copies of classic characters, so I didn't read this book when it was being published. I will admit to being tempted on several occasions though. Perhaps one day....

How can you not love a Spider-Gril page by Sal Buscema and Ron Frenz? This is a terrific page--Especially love that top panel with Mayday Parker leaping away from the bad guys!

The way they draw her here is certainly different than what the house style for Spider-Man was before. They made May more skinny and spry much like her namesake.

Great page. I read the whole series last year for the first time and it was like discovering Ultimate Spider-Man all over again :)
And Happy B'!

I think I seen your pants. They were down by the school up the flag pole. Kids still do that don't they? No? Now they make a video of your pants and send video around instead? Never mind. I'm old too...

The fam ain't messing around when it comes to daddy's birthday this year! Action packed page, man, with 2 classic creators on a newer series in Spider-Girl. Both were experts at action scene storytelling...witness exhibit A! Congrats!

Happy birthday, J H! (Sorry I'm so late to the party...). What a gorgeous example of crystal clear, action packed storytelling; nothing is lost, everything is well laid out and makes perfect sense, and you can let go of every academic observation and just bask in the awesomeness that is Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema. What a killer piece, and I'm really knocked out by the titanic inking on display here. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL page; your family has style, taste, and class, man! Congrats again, and I sincerely hope you had an excellent day (which continues all through the year to come)!
