DescriptionAs a follow up to the page from Hulk 227 I posted last week, this is another page of significance for my collection from a nostalgic perspective. With Hulk 227, I caught the fever for new comics and would go to the corner store to spin that comic rack as often as possible to find new comics. At the end of Hulk 231, I saw an ad (pic below) saying the story I was reading would be “HULKinued” in a crossover that picks up in Captain America issue 230. You mean I have to buy another comic title to read this story?!?!? So now my search begins for Captain America comics as well and it didn’t take long to find the classic Cap 230 issue (pic below with classic Ron Wilson cover Cap desperately using his shield to avoid Hulk’s smashing fist) and what a story it was!As a comic art collector, I looked for many years to find a nice page from this issue and it had to be one with the Hulk. These pages were not for sale, not at auction, and just not available. I found a collector who had some examples and he very politely declined my offer(s) to buy but after a few requests (hopefully not pestering), he did say that he would be open to trade. OK, now I am in! But his trade requirements were pretty specific, and I didn’t have what he wanted and couldn’t find anything that fit his trade criteria. Fast forward 5/6 years and lots of searching … I found a matching page and after a USPS snafu, we were able to complete a trade for the page below. And not just any page, one with Hulk in action against Flying Man (aka Quasar) and Cap in all 7 glorious panels! Huge thanks to RSG for the great communications over the years and for a great transaction. Thrilled to have this page from my first crossover story and first Cap issue in the fold and, as always, looking for more art from this arc (Hulk 227 – 235 and Cap 230-232). Social/Sharing |

I admire your patience and planning in obtaining a page of such importance to you. And quite the nice page it is!

Sal really likes the dramatic Hulk backhand attack to show off that wide swing that opens up the torso shot. Great drama as well with plenty of mid shouting faces. It's like Quasar expects yelling at him will convince him not to be angry. Good thing Cap knows that is tactically dumb.

Thanks! Looks like this page has 2 backhands - backhand throw and backhand slap. Double your backhand pleasure!

Man, great action packed storytelling as only Spectacular Sal can bring! Congrats on another personally important get, Dave - can't beat it. And that cover with Cap? A little before my time but when I saw it, ingrained in the brain :)

WHAM-O sound effect, Cap, Quasar - that's a lot on top of the Hulk!

Now that is how you play the collecting long game. Nice work, Dave. And what a Sal battle page! A classic Sal Swat in panel 5. And, random thing I noticed, but is it weird that their issue numbers lined up so well back then? Never noticed before. A great art and nostalgia combo here. Big congrats!

Nice page! The immovable nature of the Hulk, impervious to attack, is depicted so well in the middle sequence, and I love the opening 'bowling' panels. Great Sal artwork. Congrats!
