DescriptionSuper-Team Family #11 p1 (1977) Alan Weiss / Josef Rubenstein Title Splash - Flash Supergirl Atom Team-UpComic Art Live and all Bill has done for us since the pandemic began in bringing the community together and sharing his vision for CAF has gotten me to want to begin sharing some of my personal collection to do my share. This is a special piece for me, so I thought it a good one to begin. My prime collecting period is late 1975 and the first few years following, and I have a special fondness for the various series that started during this time and ran for a short period. Super-Team Family #11-14 really captured my attention and is a personal favorite. It was only about two years into my comic collecting and I was loving the DC Giant issues. How cool was it that one of my top two heroes the Flash was starring in this issue teamed with Supergirl and the Atom in an All-New 34-page Epic! (The cover promised it!) I think I was a bit shocked that the story had to be continued, but man, next issue my other favorite hero Green Lantern would appear followed by Captain Comet and then Wonder Woman with the Secret Society of Super-Villains … how could it get any better???!!! Even back then I noticed that #11 was special … the artwork seemed a step above some of the other issues and I loved the rendition of the Flash and how beautiful Supergirl was drawn. Some years later I’d begin to understand the different artists involved and that I had Alan Weiss and Joe Rubinstein to thank for this amazing treat. Special thanks to Steve Lipsky for letting this piece go (to commission a grail piece of his own) … and check his gallery for the next two pages of this issue - an amazing DPS featuring Supergirl’s arrival to this battle! Noteworthy is that when I first started using CAF, Steve’s pages from this issue were perhaps the first ones I ever remember ‘liking,’ not really understanding the usage of the feature back then nor the community I was fortunate enough to be joining. I’m much more giving with my ‘likes’ now. The page is missing one paste-on text box with the words “Unfortunately, even the most perfect peace can’t last forever …” The Atom logo at the top and the indicia at the bottom are obviously modern replacements with the originals being lost; their brightness drives me a little crazy but not enough to have prevented me from fortunately obtaining the winning bid on this special title splash page. Super high detail work for that era that stood out amongst the line of DC titles of the time period. That level of quality by Weiss was not often seen on a regular basis back then.

Reallly powerful splash image (with highly strange D-Row villians that get their butts kicked) with superb art and great inkwork !

Wow! Knock-out title splash page! Always appreciate Rubinstein's finely detailed inks and Alan just killed it.

So glad this page found a good home with you, Seth! Still one of the best artists in the business, Alan Weiss never fails to amaze with his art! And, Joe Rubinstein told me he was about 19 when he inked this book, way back at the beginning of his career. If you ever meet up with him, ask him about it.

Very glad it found this home and you were willing to let it go. And thanks for the info on Rubinstein - I have always liked his work but had no idea he was so young when he did this page.
