I don't think they cared if anyone remembered these stories. It's the strong visuals and attitude that they wanted to get out there in any form they can to capitalize and drive awareness of character.

I loved those 99 cent books that Marvel put out at that time - it's great seeing an original page from those days. Cool piece!
