Description

In this scene, Thor, in his most powerful form ever, "Rune King Thor", carries the living severed head of Loki and goes to bargain with Surtur, accompanied by a mysterious child that is learned to be the embodiment of the Odin-Force. Thor tells Surtur that if he will re-forge the damaged Mjolnir, Thor will cut a straight path for Surtur and his armies to Valhalla and Vanaheim to wage the final glorious battle.

Thor does this in order to bring about Ragnarok, so that he can interrupt it and end the cycle forever by destroying the Loom of Fates and Yggdrasil, and then decides to rest, or stop existing, at least for a while.

This marks the final issue of the Thor series that started in 1962 with Journey of Mystery #83. This issue's legacy number would be #587, published in December 2004.

Thor would not be seen again in his own series again for three years when he revives himself for the fantastic story started by J. Michael Straczynski, Olivier Coipel, and Mark Morales.

Published from Andrea DiVito's pencils with some help from colorist Laura Villari.

I purchased the first page of this duo in 2019 from a Super Pal, and the second from Anthony in 2021 at Baltimore Comic Con.
