Some people claim that the 1939 cartoon, which was the last of the Silly Symphony shorts, was a remake of the 1931 cartoon of the same title. This is incorrect. While the 1939 version is full of charm and well-developed characterizations of the story by Hans Christian Anderson, the early cartoon is little more than a series of gags, as was so often true with the earliest Silly Symphonies, and it bears almost no resemblance to Anderson's fairy tale.
