Description

Astonishing X-Men by Whedon and Cassaday was the next great X-Men run after Morrison's on New X-Men.

AXM featured some of Cassaday's best work, together with Planetary. I enjoyed in particular the storytelling on the quiet scenes and the exquisite linework.

Cassaday's Emma is a tight match with Morrison's. Cold as ice and super cool.

This Cassaday page uses minimal backgrounds to really dig in on the characters. All that shadow used on the faces depict the emotions of them and informs us that the words are just as calculated as the art showing them. Emma Frost and everyone else does come across like they are from a place of antagonism to each other.

This arc is on the short list of best Emma Frost stories. When it was done you felt like you knew her in a way you hadn't before. Love Cassaday's rendition of her here and during the entire run. Congrats!

Cassaday's Emma perfectly matched how the character should always be depicted - the right blend of beauty and arrogance.
