Oh man. Great piece of a great band.
All I know is that I don't know nothing. Awesome piece, Kavi!
We went to a shopping mall
And laughed at all the shoppers
And security guards trailed us to a record shop
We asked for Mojo Nixon
They said he don't work here
We said if you don't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin'
Nice pull, Punk Rock Girl!!!! man it had been years since I listened to that one. ;)
I'm mad that I didn't think of this.
I have to wonder if their music ever even made it this far north, cuz I've never even heard of this band. But I did any and all music related illustration. Nice piece, dude!
Not sure about that although Canadians who were super into Punk Rock during the 90s may have found a way to seek them out. You have heard of Rancid though yes? 2 of the founding members of that band were part of Op Ivy and are still part of Rancid to this day, they were much more commercially successful than Op Ivy was, but not as groundbreaking/influential to other punk bands (arguably).
Great mix of music and art.
These guys had so many extra mozzarella sticks it isn't even funny.
Dammit I need some Mahfood in my life. Congrats, bud!
This is so good my friend! Mahfood's art is so fun and full of energy which is perfect for band. Love me some Op Ivy!
I never listened to their stuff, but yes, I'm aware of Rancid. As you say, I suppose their lack of widespread success is why I never heard of the precursor band.
Great piece, and I agree, Jim Mahfood is a great guy and fun to meet. I just set up a pre-con commission from him, music related, for ECCC that I'm excited for.
Great piece!
MAH-FOOOOOOOD!!! Nice score Kavi. Do you know if this is part of the giant wall collage or a separate piece hanging at Jammyland? I don't go downtown very often, but the next time I do I will drop in and try and snag a pic on the wall for you.
thanks Jeff!! Honestly those part of the details are a bit fuzzy from my convo with Jim a month ago at the convention...could be either lol. Collage sounds like it might be right but I don't know for sure
The next greatest hit! Badass get bud!
i was fortunate enough to have seen Operation Ivy in 89.
What an insane show by one of my favorite bands of all time.
Great piece of art too!
