Description
Blade Runner 2049: Joi (Ana de Armas) sketch cover on Blade Runner 2019 #5 blank cover (no clue why there was a blank for issue 5) by Howard Steacker.

One of my goals of the weekend was to dig into my shortbox of sketch covers and scan stuff that I didn't have images of that probably hasnt seen the light of day in months if not years in some cases.

I haven't been as into sketch covers lately after going down the rabbit hole of published pages and commissions and the like but I did have a decent amount from both earlier days of art collecting and ones done by friends in recent years as gifts or cheap fun pieces.

So I guess expect a few "new" sketch cover posts, of old pieces. I still think they are fun parts of the cross section of the hobby between comic book collectors and art collectors, a place I find myself in all the time.

My friend H hooked it up once again with this gorgeous sketch of "Joi", played by the stunningly beautiful and talented actress Ana de Armas in the fantastic sci-fi sequel film to the legendary Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049. "K", played by Ryan Gosling approaches her from the shadows.

The Blade Runner films still feel like cult status to some degree vs mainstream but I've always loved the original (or originals I suppose with the various cuts) and I liked Blade Runner 2049 just as much, if not even more.

For me Denis Villeneuve is a genius filmmaker and I've enjoyed just about everything he has done and was beyond happy with how his Dune film turned out as well.

I am a big sci-fi film, books, comics, and movies fan and both of these films are inspiring me on my journey as an art collector in other ways as well.

Anyway, this sketch is beautiful in it's simplicity and I just love it.

Song choices:

"Joi" by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch

"Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley and The Jordonaires

I still have not taken the time to see 2049. Need to put that in the holiday viewing queue. Thanks for the reminder via a snazzy sketch cover!

Having only ever been familiar with the name Ana de Armas from the daily headlines about her dating Ben Affleck a few years ago, I decided to do a little research on her. I very quickly found that she has done nude scenes in 12 out of her first 20 films, for a 60% nudity ratio, leading one to believe that Ana de Armas loves getting naked on film.
