Description

YAY! Superboy and Green Lantern both survived the volcano's lava! For those of you who missed it, last week I posted the cover art to Green Lantern #94, featuring the 2 symbols most connected with Superboy and Green Lantern, their leather jacket and mask respectively, seemingly sinking into the lava and indicating they may have perished.

Well, as this is the 2nd part of that 2-part story, for those of you who may have wondered if our beloved heroes had met a sad fate, wonder no more, as they clearly did survive unscathed!

I'm always really happy to add another Superboy cover to my collection, as the character always came with the same, jubilant attitude Peter Parker had back in the Lee& Ditko days as he started his career. The main difference is that Superboy was almost always cheerful, whereas Peter Parker only seemed to be cheerful in the midst of battling the rogues who were constantly trying to kill him. Of course, this is because Superboy didn't have a sickly old aunt who didn't have a pot to piss in let alone have money to pay rent, but that very freedom is what enabled the character and series to remain lighthearted most of the time and that was refreshing and fun.

Anyway, it was a really nice coincidence that Grummett had also drawn the cover to the 1st part of this 2 part story, especially given that he wasn't the artist on the Green Lantern series, and I'm really glad to have been able to acquire the covers to both parts of the story!

Oh, I know this is a long shot, but if anyone is aware of a home remedy that can remove or at least partially remove the two giant, horrifying and long out of style circa early 90's gold Sharpie signatures, PLEASE let me know! PRETTY PLEASE?

The gold sharpie signatures are part of the charm of the cover!  I'd leave them right where they are (not that I know of a way to remove them).  Another very cool Grummett cover!

Strangely enough, I prefer this cover to the first one ˆˆ

Surfin' the lavaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I know a way to remove gold sharpie but it's kind of magical so you'll have to trust me here. Based on the fact that both are placed in opposite corners, you take the same kind of gold sharpie, preferably a bigger one than the one used, then you trace a diagonal between the two signatures to link them both on the cover. I garantee that they will magically disappear. Trust me, tested and e-ve-ry time it works ;)

good point about those gold sharpie sigs...yikes....killer damn cover though regardless...really cool to have the covers for a 2 part story like that spread across titles...pretty unique. Congrats on this addition, Ruben!

I wonder why the need to sign twice? I would be fine with the one in the top boarder, but I can see why you'd want to have the one in the bottom corner removed.

Great Cover!

Yeah, your inker was so preoccupied with wether or not he could, he didn't stop to think if he should.  A real wooda, shoulda, coulda.

Another excellent cover Ruben. I missed out on this one back in the day on eBay (back when covers like this were crazy cheap).

I love that you have both parts!! It looks like they both survived, which cannot be said of the signatures (at least while you're the caretaker) ;)

It's nice seeing this one again!  I had the pleasure of owning it years ago.  Great image, with that dynamic background, and so cool that the two characters are floating in volcanic lava on ythe Green Lantern emblem.  Congrats on owning both covers to the X-Over!

I don't think the sigs detract from this piece at all.  Such a cool cover!!!

Sweet addition and tie-in for your Grummett cover collection Ruben!

Just be glad Stan Lee or Bill Shatner weren't around during the 'gold' exchange!

Now we know the real reason why we see so many pages with clipped corners ;)

Man, if only the signatures weren't yellow-based, the Lantern could totally pop those things off in two shakes, I'd wager...  Regardless, still a beautiful, FUN, poster-worthy rendition of our two heroes, and another wonderful add to your collection, Ruben.  Fantastic!

(I would, however, like to know in which order the two crossover issues/covers were released, to better understand their potential "narrative"...  Did it start with our heroes in dire trouble (the Superboy cover) and resolve into this triumphant moment (thanks to some quick thinking on Kyle's part), or were poor Connor and Kyle victims of another heartbreaking lava raft incident?  (Always wear your life jackets on those magma boat excursions, kids!)  Who can say for sure (besides anyone who checks the release dates)??  We'll probably never know (unless we check it)!!  Drama and mayhem ensue!!!)

PHEW! I was nervous there for a second. :) Grummett just killed the 90s cover scene, imo. Drama, humor, actual backgrounds, all in that great crisp and precise style. And you even got a little example of Superboys tactile telekinesis on the cover. You've cornered the market, Rubén. Congrats!

Aaaand they're back!  :)  Perfect that you posted these 2 covers back to back.  Not as familiar with Superboy (I know, sorry) but do like me some GL Kyle!  Congrats on yet another great Grummett get, guy!
