Description

The best (my opinion) and probably strangest page of this entire issue and story, R.E. Howard's "The Hour of the Dragon." Buscema reaches into some pretty strange places for this imagery!!! It features Akivasha the Vampiress cavorting with nether creatures/demons that shrink from the light of the Heart of Ahriman. The next panel with the salamander creature entering the passage has an incredible eldritch feel and is simply iconic. The disturbing narrative is then translated at the exit into relief. Then as the text states Conan, "...runs in the grip of ungovernable panic." That's pretty apt!

Masterful work by John Buscema (w/Autograph at the top) and "The Tribe" who are purported to include Tony DeZuñiga, Steve Gan, Rudy Mesina, and Freddie Fernandez. I definitely believe I see DeZuniga's ink pen here.

The imagery on the page is something of an odyssey, mirroring the feel of the narrative. An exceptionally nice Conan page to own!

All the magnificent things that lurk in the darkness that quickly scurry away when the light is shone in their direction before you can understand in your mind what you are looking at. Buscema has finally captured it for us to study. It might be the same at anyone's house.

Gorgeous page, especially the angst-ridden twisted forms in the horrific opening panel. Buscema and DeZuniga combined so well, and this is a stunning example of their work.
