DescriptionIf you don't remember this story, you might wonder why the Hulk is dressed in fetish gear?First of all, Apocalypse has turned the Hulk into War, one of the Four Horsemen, which explains the outfit. War Hulk has just finished beating up Juggernaut and the Absorbing Man when Rick Jones gets too close and Hulk smacks him into a wall. The shock from realizing what he's done releases the Hulk from Apocalypse's control. In the comic, Bruce's father is shown tormenting him inside his head on the bottom middle panel, but the original art had Banner there instead. (The image of Banner's Dad was taken from the previous issue, drawn by Adam and Joe Kubert.) This is from the tail end of the Peter David run (only 10 issues before his last). David had started tying the main series in with the Hulk: Future Imperfect mini-series which introduced the Maestro and Rick Jones' future granddaughter, Janis Jones, who's featured here. Rick Jones is in a wheelchair in the Future Imperfect series and it's strongly implied that this is the event that crippled him. Unfortunately, Peter David's run was ended prematurely, so it's not clear if he really intended for Future Imperfect to become canon storyline or if he was just messing with the readers. Pencils are by David Brewer, who did nice work on 3 fill in issues of The Hulk (#457, 461 and 465) during the Adam Kubert run. Inks are credited to Cam Smith and Andrew Pepoy, but I'm pretty sure only Pepoy inked this particular page. Social/Sharing |

Now that's a cool leather mask! There seemed to be a run on them in 90's Marvel.

Yeah, there seems to have been a serious S&M phase going on at Marvel in the 90's!

Fantastic page! That second panel is obviously great but the anguish in the last is wonderfully executed

Hey! I think he pulls off the leather and spikes better than Ghost Rider!

Dr B's Floating Head is the name of my Talking Heads cover band. (Not really ;)) I really dug this storyline delving into Bruce's/Hulk's psyche, and where it might go... The Hulk might seem simple, but he's one of the deepest Marvel characters, imo. Great page. Congrats!
