DescriptionNew commission: the latest issue of my Golden Age Team-Up Project series (The Brave And The Bold #211), pairing Batman with Fawcett hero Spy Smasher. Art by Bambos Georgiou, adapted from the cover to Marc Spector, Moon Knight #9, original art by Sal Velluto and Scott Williams.1942 - Batman prowls the rooftops of Gotham City, his latest lead on the whereabouts of Baron Blitzkreig and the other Axis villains having proved a bust. He's interrupted, though, by the silent arrival of the amazing Gyro-Sub, and it's pilot! Spy Smasher reveals that his sources in G2 (Army Intelligence) have suggested that saboteurs are planning to attack the Gotham Navy Yard, aiming to destroy some of the ships under construction there. Since he's in the neighborhood, he thought Batman might like to join him in foiling the plot? The Caped Crusader readily agrees, boarding the Gyro-Sub and the two heroes set off for the Gotham waterfront. As they arrive, Batman catches sight of an anomalous patch of darkness which seems to move against the wind - and realises that this must be an indication that Axis villainess Night is present! Leaping from the Gyro-Sub, he ploughs into the dark, and knocks Night flying - and as the blackness fades, it also reveals the presence of Kung, Zyklon --- and Baron Blitzkreig! Spy Smasher joins the fight from aloft, his modified tommy-gun sending bullets towards the villains - but they're intercepted and destroyed by the Baron's eye-beams! So Alan Armstrong also leaps into the fray, joining Batman as the two heroes tackle the villains hand-to-hand. A thrown batarang fells Zyklon before he can use his speed to attack the heroes - and a shout from Kung alerts Spy Smasher to the presence of a bomb in a nearby part-constructed ship! As Batman takes on the three remaining villains single-handed, Spy Smasher finds and disarms the bomb in the nick of time - and then rejoins the fight, knocking out Night while Batman overpowers Kung, despite his transformation into an enormous ape, with a gas-bomb. As the fallen villains are tied up and captured, Batman realises that Baron Blitzkreig has fled the scene - but now only the last of the Axis saboteurs remain on the loose, he's confident that it won't be long before the Baron is also tracked down and defeated! Concluded - next issue! Social/Sharing |
