Description

New commission: the latest issue of my Golden Age Team-Up Project series (The Brave And The Bold #210), pairing Batman with Firebrand. Art by Bambos Georgiou, adapted from the cover to Daredevil #123, original art by John Romita.

1942 - and with Batman no longer brainwashed, he determines to step up the campaign to capture Baron Blitzkreig and his Axis allies! However, despite the Gotham Guardian's own searches, and the aid of his fellow members of the All-Star Squadron, the trail appears to go cold.

Ironically, the breakthrough comes when socialite and philanthropist Bruce Wayne is invited to a fundraising ball being held on behalf of President Roosevelt's charity The March Of Dimes, also attended by a number of prominent industrialists who are key players in the wartime defence industry. As Bruce Wayne dances with his date for the evening - Dannette Reilly, daughter of the recently-deceased steel magnate "Emerald Ed" Reilly - he spots suspicious activity outside the ballroom, and makes his excuses to leave and investigate as the Batman.

Dannette Reilly isn't far behind him, changing into her secret identity as Firebrand, and accompanying Batman as the two follow a shifty-looking waiter into the depths of the building, where they find five Axis super-villains - Night, Fog, Sumo The Samurai, Kung and Zyklon - setting explosives to destroy the building and wipe out a large part of the heads of the US' defence effort!

The two heroes immediately tackle the villains, with Batman quickly knocking out Fog, and Firebrand imprisoning Zyklon behind a wall of flame. Firebrand then holds back both Night and Kung, while Batman goes to disarm the bomb - only to be intercepted by Sumo The Samurai! As the two battle, Firebrand is able to use her powers to melt the explosives' detonator without setting the bomb off, and Batman uses his fighting prowess to wear down and eventually defeat his giant Japanese opponent.

As their ally falls, the remaining Axis villains flee - Zyklon using his speed to extinguish the flaming cage which had imprisoned him and carrying off Night, while Kung transforms himself into a bird and flies after them! Batman and Firebrand console themselves that they have, at least, captured two of the villains - Sumo and Fog - but Batman vows that the others, and Baron Blitzkrieg, won't remain on the loose for too much longer!
