Description

New commission: the latest issue of my Golden Age Team-Up Project series (The Brave And The Bold #209), pairing Batman with Johnny Quick. Art by Bambos Georgiou, adapted from the cover to Amazing Spider-Man #71, original art by John Romita.

1942 - and the brainwashed Batman has the Shining Knight at his mercy! With Sir Justin laid low by a gas bomb, Batman seizes his fallen sword and stabs at him - but Merlin's enchantment, which makes the Knight's armour bulletproof, also protects him from his own blade, and the blow glances harmlessly off! As Batman prepares to strike at the Knight's unprotected throat, a recovered Winged Victory kicks out and sends the Caped Crusader flying!

As both heroes regain their feet, a third figure enters the fray - at super-speed - as Johnny Quick races into battle. Although Batman hurls another gas bomb, Johnny's speed dispels it, and he rains blows down on the Gotham Guardian - but pulls his punches because he knows that the hero isn't responsible for his actions. This allows Batman to strike back, and Johnny only just avoids the batarang thrown at him.

Johnny and the Shining Knight team up, flanking Batman and cornering him - and a blow from the flat of Sir Justin's sword knocks Batman to his knees. A follow-up flurry of super-speed punches sends the hero into unconsciousness, and he's quickly tied up and transported, on the back of Winged Victory, to the All-Star Squadron's headquarters.

At the Perisphere, Robotman and Mr Terrific are putting the finishing touches to a copy of the Axis brainwashing machine, recreated from the plans which Batman had retrieved in issue #202. Although Batman tries to escape from captivity, he's no match for the heroes present - and with the flick of a switch, the machine begins to work, undoing the brainwashing and returning Batman to normal.

Recovering, Batman vows to track down the Axis villains - not only does he need to stop their wave of sabotage, but things are now personal. With the aid of his fellow All-Star Squadron members, he'll stop Baron Blitzkrieg and his allies in their tracks - or die trying!

Continued - next issue!

Great speed lines and scraping style in the famed Romita Sr. style!

Terrific cover homage! Great images of Johnny Quick, and I really like that distinctive JQ logo.

It's not Johnny's most common logo, but I took it from the JQ story in More Fun Comics #79 (though it did appear in a few other issues as well).
