DescriptionCover dated November 1990.This was the third part of the Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite story that was running through the Superman books at the time. Mister Mxyzptlk had teamed up with Lex Luthor to once again mess with our hero, this time by exposing Superman to Red Kryptonite for the first time in post-Crisis continuity. In the Silver Age days of old, Red Kryptonite would cause strange, temporary mutations in the Last Son of Krypton. In this case, Red K was created by Mister Mxyzptlk to deprive the Man of Steel of his powers. Where we pick things up here, Kal-El had just tricked Lex into thinking his powers had returned by having Starman fly around the city disguised as the Kryptonian. But Mister Mxyzptlk knows better. McLeod and Breeding did dynamite work on this book. The Superman titles as a whole were a lot of fun at this time, with great stories and artwork across the board. I think the woman in the last panel better be careful about what she says in the open. Lex has eyes and ears everywhere, and he doesn’t take kindly to employees who speak ill of him. Social/Sharing |

Yes, this era of Superman was so much fun. Always consistently good art and fun stories, as we see here in this example.

Well if he's making noises like that with only Miss Lane in there with him, they must be thinking to cancel the rest of the day's appointments because that laughter can only come when watching Superman IV the Quest for Peace.

That bottom left panel is money. Great add, Michael!

Lex is already on the phone ordering another assistant. He's pretty sure this one is going to have an "accident." Mr Mxyzpytlk and Luthor! That's a very cool pairing to have on the page. A really neat moment, too. Great score. Congrats!

Agreed that McLeod did such great work on Superman. I find it's a pitty that DC is not keeping that era in print.

I agree. The Superman stories from 1986-1989 have now been collected a couple of times in recent years, but the issues from 1990 up until the "Death of Superman" story get no love from DC's collected editions department.

I love the middle pannel with Lex blowing his lid next to the Tazmanian ICP looking character - Dust Devil. Really fun page.

How cool--Mxyzpytlk and Lex Luthor together! They should've had their own team-up comic, like World's Finest only call it World's Worst!

Bob McLeod showing he is an inker who is equally adept at doing pencils. Love that menacing Luthor denter panel. Congrats - thanks for sharing!

Beautiful! Lex cuts such a striking figure in his patented pitch black suit. He commands every room (and panel) that he's in. And McLeod and Breeding do a GREAT Mxyzptlk! Congrats, Michael!

Humorous page, but also really dig the artwork. Great panels here, and love that middle panel with the closeup shot of Lex. Fantastic page in a super collection. Congrats, Michael!

Just a great, fun page with two Superman villains that don't typically interact much.
