DescriptionA feminist message (or expression of male anxiety. Or both) in a 1938 panel gag. I don't know how I feel about Dodd as a cartoonist. He wasn't a "natural," there's always something a bit clumsy about his work (the glamorous but big-headed girls in this one look weird rather than cartoony), but he put his all into it, and it somehow works. Mostly. The dog seems amusingly unconcerned with human gender politics: is that a severed rooster head he's found on the ground? What is that? And for me, the "absolute silence" caption with three arrows and wiggly borders is worth the price of admission.Social/Sharing |

Design of the shot itself well crafted with the young girls out in the foreground bigger and bolder than the boys behind them. It's his own cartoony style that he stays consistent with.
