Description

Of all the realistic "soap opera strip" artists (Drake, Kotzky, Adams, LeDoux -- who else?), Leonard Starr seemed to most interested in dramatic atmospheric lighting, especially in the early-mid 60s. This strip has lots of theatrical lighting ("on stage" indeed), cross-hatching and patterns, and very little white showing!

Starr did indeed do some incrediblly atmospheric lighting during this period, especially in this story. It's a great daily. I happen to have the daily 1 week after this one and it also is excellently atmospheric. Just one thing I have to "correct". Having read every single word of the 22 year long run of this strip, I can honestly say that it is more of an adventure strip, disguised as a soap opera strip.

Great daily! The lighting, staging, poses, and expressions all contribute to the suspense and atmosphere of the story.
