Description

Aside from the delicious brushwork, what I love about gags like this is the double-shot of nostalgia: our own nostalgia for the period in which it was drawn, and the nostalgia for 40 years earlier that the cartoonist is capturing. I find this near-symmetrical composition, the subject almost dead-center in exact profile, unusual and fun. Not to mention the body language & almost frightened expression of the young man in his stiff new clothes, with glow-lines thrown off by their newness. And of course the charming girls reacting to the sight.

(By the way, CAF needs a "panel gag" category in "Art Type," don't you think?)
