Description

Haven’t posted any new Black Panther art in a few months so I had to remedy that. This one from Kim Jacinto, one of the newer killer ar-teests in Justin “Jiggy” Cruz’s staple at Next Comic Art! I loved the stylization and energy I was seeing in Kim’s stuff, and when I saw that there was going to be an art drop with these bust shots, including one of my main man T’Challa, I was ON it.

And see what I mean here regarding stylization?! Not sure I’ve seen a BP like this. It’s easy to think that BP’s look, costume, etc., are simpler, being mainly a black silhouette. But you’d be surprised to see how artists can really take some unique spins with the “simpler” look, like here. Love the bigger eyes, and how the brow is furled. And with the jawline coming to more of a point it all adds up to really up the feline factor, and strong animated look. And don’t you love that hand?! Cool how he has the necklace bordering the bust, and…zipatone, baby! Love seeing this stuff. You don’t get the effect as much in the scan vs in person, but I tell you, it’s dope. Old school nuance with new school art. Lastly, I thought it was cool Kim did a space background. The last BP run/volume before the current one was set in space – not sure if Kim was thinking about that when doing this piece, but it definitely came to mind for me!

Hope y’all like, and thanks, Kim and Jiggy!

Honestly, I love the stylization, I love the background inks and I absolutely adore the zip-a-tone! Don't ever listen to people who tell you that nothing new can be done with a simple costume like Black Panther's. It just takes some skill and creativity on the artists' part!

Damn, that's really cool. I love the scrunching on the nose. Gives the face more attitude.

I love the level of facial expression given that artists have historically relied on the character's body language to convey mood given the mask.  An outstanding piece!

I hear you, Michael.  Many a BP image I can picture where the gestural kind of drawing helped to convey what the character's thinking, feeling, etc.  Always appreciate that.  Thought we do get the facial expressions coming through the mask at times, like here.  Makes more sense I think for a thinner mask like this vs an Iron Man or Doctor Doom.  Isn't it funny though, and kinda cool, that we've seen expressions on those 2 characters "faces" over the years?!  Comics, baby :)  Thanks man, and all, for the comments!

You may think that I'm singin’ foolish
You've heard that I rhyme and flow free
You may wonder how I can comment right now
This love that I feel for your artwork when seen

But you’re Justin time art drop’s callin’
I pick up because of those eyes
As Shuri as I live, money that I give
Is gonna be saved all for the Next Level guy

Nakia, I'm gonna love my Black Panther
T’Challa Forever amen
As long as good men sit with heart shaped herb flower
As long as Jacinto zips up in Jiggy’s bullpen
If vibranium is strong, I'll be faithful
I'll be happy M’Baku again
I'm gonna love you forever T’Challa
Wakanda forever, amen

You've outdone yourself again!  Wasn't expecting country music to be pulled in, but I love it, especially this particular time!  Was one of my late grandmother's absolute favorite songs.  So mixing it with BP goodness...I can dig it, baby, I can dig it :)  Thanks, Marcus!

Another brilliant Black Panther acquisition!  I think that outer space background is really cool too.  And that shadow under BP's nose, though not his actual mouth, sure makes him look sinister, especially when combined with those glowing eyes, the furrowed brow and the curled claws.  Love how those diamond-shaped pieces extend into the white background.  It all works so well !!

ZIPATONE! You know I get a little weird for zipatone. And that's a pattern I haven't seen before. It looks excellent as the black panther suit. And the brush work for that Sky is very neat, as well as the drop shadow mouth effect. What a cool commision. Great BP score (finally ;)). Congrats!

"Style" is indeed the operative word here, friend - Pfoof!  It oozes out of every corner of this this thing - Great piece!  Terrific and dramatic composition, using the Wakandan necklace and glove borders to define the areas of the figure in the piece.  Lovely brushwork on the stars behind T'Challa, and that zipatone?!?  Oh, dear me, YES.  (It looks like there may be two patterns in the zip, with more of a cross-hatching at the bottom and more of a straightforward texture up top...?  Am I seeing that correctly?). EXCELLENT point about combining the old and new into something unique and exciting.  Love the claw/hand here, too.  Awesome stuff.  Great grab, K!

Glad you dig it, man!  As far as the zipatone goes, just looked again in person.  It's actually the same throughout.  Might be the scan?  Or maybe just an optical effect, cuz I do see clearly what you're talking about...then I don't, lol.  In any case all that zipatone definitely makes for some nice viewing, here or in person!  Thanks!
