DescriptionBig add today! When you think “Punisher” you can’t help but think “Zeck” and vice versa. Collector buds who know me know I LOVE me some Zeck. I set a goal to get at least one nice published example from the following books:- Spider-Man (Kraven’s Last Hunt) - Secret Wars - Captain America - Master of Kung Fu (Shang-Chi) - Punisher I’m happy to have checked those first 4. But did recently confirm a published Punisher page featuring Frank, including from Return to Big Nothing and not just the limited series, is now out of reach. All good, though. Moved to getting a nice non-published example, but that said I definitely wanted something with a large pin up-y shot of Frank and something that looked finished. Like it could be published. Mission accomplished, I'd say, with this 11x14 beaut from Black Line Fever! Frank’s got that no nonsense look…you know someone’s in trouuuubllle. The darkened room, with only the one light source and shadow of Frank’s head also makes you feel like he’s got the drop on some poor bad guys. I also like the gun – thought it was unique looking, as well as how he’s holding the mag. Lastly, got a little grey tone via pencil! So, yes, definitely happy with this! Got my list o’ Zeck 5 checked. Does that mean I’m done getting art by him? Well…I didn’t quite say THAT :) Social/Sharing |

What an awesome piece. You gotta love Mike's clean line work and use of shadows. Congrats, Khalil!

For anyone who started reading comics in the 1980s, I think it's safe to say that Zeck's Punisher is THE Punisher. If you told me that this was drawn in 1986, I'd believe it without question - take that as high praise.

Right there with you. Got a classic look and vibe - was definitely part of the appeal I actually don't know, as I write this, when this was done but I'm gonna try to find out. Andre wondered similarly in the comments below, too. I'm thinking not recently but also not the '80s - somewhere in between. Understand that's big range, though, lol. Thanks for the comment Micheal, and all, as always!

I am a big fan of Zeck's Captain America art, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate his other work, such as this. Congrats.

Yes, a Zeck Punisher is the ultimate get for Punisher fans! But now you still have to add another one, where his face is raging and bullets are flying. THAT'S the Punisher! Your collection continues to shape up nicely, man, and it's because you found a focus and are sticking to it as you gun down each item on that list!

Check, check, check, check and .... CHECK! Congrats on capturing #5! (And what a great list of pieces to have in your collection!). This is a really outstanding portrayal of the Punisher by the great Mike Zeck. I love the look on his face along with the crinkled brow. Congrats man!!

Wasn't quite years for me, Larry, more like year :) Still awhile to be going back and forth! But there was a reason I kept going back, right? And when published became out of reach, I said it was time. Glad you like, man, and thanks for the add!

Lol, yeah, fun little part of the backstory to the piece, right?! It was funny, when I got it in the mail, it was a kinda weird and cool seeing "from: Glenn Danzig" on the package :) Thanks, Chris!

I wonder what year this is? Some of his current stuff can look a little... familiar. But this is definitely a standout. Congrats on completing your (first) journey. Great piece!

Zeck, you know we belong together
I don't have no time for you DC playing with my art like this
You'll be mine Punisher baby
No more wait
We are strong together
And you know Last Kraven’s might
Where do I Hunt for my art?
Why is it so hard to find?
Zeck we'd be forever
Shang-Chi always mine
How could you Spidey and leave me with Captain America?
When I can't sleep at night
Without holding you tight
Zeck, each time I try I just Beatty and cry
Page in my head
Oh, get cover instead
Flipping around and around
Although we've come
To the end of Marvel
Secret can't let go
It's so Zeckual
You Beyonder me
I Beyonder you

You KNOW I'm singing these lyrics out loud, right?! "page in my head, oh, get cover instead" LOL! Zeck reading as a kid, B2M listening as I enter my teens - nostalgia double whammy courtesy o' Wai! Thanks, man!

Zeck = Punisher, Punisher = Zeck ... in my eyes at least. GREAT example. I was thinking about adding a Zeck Punisher example, and then the SW8 result happened and put that idea on the backburner where it might get fried altogether. Congrats - this is a REALLY great addition KG. Thanks for sharing!

Like many, when it comes to work, there are a ton of acronyms we use that no one outside would get. I thought about that when I saw "SW8", lol. But yeah, published Punisher was gonna be pretty difficult to make happen so I'm happy to have made THIS happen. Thanks, man, and glad you like!

MF-er, this look means you'd better think twice. And if that second thought is still yes, then think again. My lead isn't very patient, tho, so hurry up. This is awesome, Kahlil. You could not get a more perfect Zeck Punisher, imo. When he inks his own pencils, it's one of my favorites. Great grab. Huge, explosive congrats!

I can be patient, but my lead? Not so much. I suggest you get to it :) I too love Zeck inking himself...but him and John Beatty a dynamic duo do make. Don't make me choose! Thanks, man!

Congrats, K! I remember talking to you about your adoration of Zeck as an artist. His Punisher was a big part of my childhood as well. So seeing you own this makes me happy for a great fellow collector like yourself.
Seeing Zeck's shading on Frank's chest above and inside the skull and then the shading on the gun is so cool. The deeper, darker blacks are also so well placed. This oozes brilliance to me in terms of technique in particular. It really is perfect, dude.
Thank you for sharing this here with all of us.

Duuuuude.... you KNOW how much I love this one!!! Completely perfect example of Zeck's Punisher! Published or not... who cares? This is a fully finished, highly detailed example as worthy of publication as anything else out there. I'm so glad this one ended up with you man! I'm gonna keep enjoying it online in your gallery and I'm stoked that it found its way into your collection!

Thanks, Daryl, and thanks for talking through with me before I pulled the trigger (pun!). Love your Zeck Punisher collection, man, and I'm glad to now have joined the club! "Published or not...who cares?" Totally agree, and have felt that even more so since I got it in hand! Glad you dig it like you do, and thanks for the comments!

Beautiful pick up, KG! I know how badly you wanted a Zeck Punisher, and how much this (obviously) means to you. It sounds like you scouted out the perimeter of this one for a while, and there's something to be said for those pieces we keep going back to over and over again... MEGA congrats on making this a reality! I love Frank's expression here: battle hardened... battle weary... hardly weary...? Fantastic lighting, too, with the light source from the left (and the full window square of light center page to set Frank's head against, then allowing the gun to pop back in the shadows on the right). Another gorgeous piece for your excellent collection, sir. Great score, man!

Naw, it was on the BLF site. Had been there awhile, too, but I was holding out to see if I could make a published example happen. When I confirmed that wasn't going to be the case, I pulled the trigger. Didn't get to meet Glenn, but was cool receiving a package addressed from him :) Thanks, Steve!

Ross Andru and John Romita, Sr. may have created the visual look of the Punisher, but Frank Castle never looks sharper than when Mike Zeck renders him. This is an amazing piece, my friend! Congratulations!
