Description
Keeping the non-published posting going with this beaut by Bengal. My first piece by him, and my 10th new artist add of 2022. 2022’s been a focus on some nostalgic keys on the checklist, but I’ve also focused on adding some newer artists to the portfolio! Or portfolios :)

Liked this one immediately. First, the vibe. Frank getting the pistol ready, and looking RIGHT at the viewer. Scary stuff. You heard of the term, “anti-hero”? I think this could be a dictionary pic for it. Second, loved all of the line work. His slicked back hair, shadowed eyes, quill pattern on the arms…similar lines for all and I dig the cohesiveness resulting from them. It’s a smaller piece, basically around the size of a comic book, but Bengal didn’t dial things down because of that. Great detail on the gear, and I particularly like all that hatch-y goodness outlining the skull. But I keep going back to them eyes. And the shadowing on his face overall almost makes it look like a skull!

I may get a published piece at some point, but this will work just fine for now - thanks, Bengal, and Jason at Essential Sequential!

And stay tuned, folks – got some other Frank Castle goodness coming soon!

An interesting piece by Bengal. Some of the work on the figure is fairly unusual for him, but still great! The piece has a great mood with the facial shadowing. Background is classic Bengal linework. Recently supported the upcoming artbook at OA tier, I think there is going to be some killer illustrations in that.

I've never heard of this artist, so it's good that you're posting this to introduce him to art fans at large! His style is really cool, as it gives me a very "What if The Punisher had been created and published by a small indy publisher" kind of vibe. It's really, really neat!

This is a great modern take on the character.  I'm getting a serial killer vibe from his face, which isn't inappropriate for Mr. Castle.

Ha ha, I didn't get that initially but totally see it, particularly with that slicked back hair.  Bit of a Hannibal vibe!  Thanks, Michael, and all, for the comments!

The man got cover duties on All-New Wolverine for a reason.  Punisher should be scary, and Bengal's is terrifying...

Wow, look at that stare.  Very menacing and scary.  Love the heavy use of the blacks as well.  Just a lovely commission done by Bengal.  Congrats!

The word that comes to mind for me with this beautiful piece here is "haunting."  And Punisher has a 'haunted' look to his downcast shadowy eyes.  Thank you for introducing me (and many of us) to this talented artist.  I'm a fan!

Dang! Definitely a unique take that works so well. Also, not used to seeing Bengal create for b/w as opposed to his usual clear line style for color. A rare and impressive piece!

Thanks, Jason!  Agree regarding it being unique, as you note, Bengal does most of his stuff with less spot/block blacks and rendering, as he's drawing to highlight his sublime line work for color publishing.  I did like the fact that this one looked a bit different to me straight away, and that was a big part of it!

Punisher when we held on in the pain
At night you always post it
Once again we can take gun fight into tomorrow
Castle no feelings
Black and blue I punish all again

Shouldn’t we always call Bengal
For artwork he’s been illustrating?
The price that’s paid was worth Bengal my friend
Frank Castle is not forgiving
Bullets we almost have reload
The knives we sharpened till the morning
You know Skull never love that way again
Didn't we almost have Bengal?

Cool piece. (I mean the art, not the gun). Love Bengal's work here, especially the inks. Lots of detailed work and it's all very controlled, very deliberate. What a fresh take on the Punisher!

He's got the look that kills, and you don't want to be on the wrong side of that look! Great piece KG - love the vibe on this a lot!

That look might as well be a sign: BEWARE! Dangerous MF-er ahead! Man, that look...I really like Bengal's style (and his name :)) It reminds me of Gil Kane a little bit. And I really like how we use light source to create the textures. Pretty clever. I really like this focus, Kahlil. Smart, too, as the new guys of today are the illuminaries of tomorrow. Great commission. Congrats!

This is the most terrifying Punisher I've ever seen. So much so, I am quitting my life of crime from this day forward because I don't want to end up in a pit at this guy's farmhouse.

I mean...I had to do something to get you to stop!  Figured a dose o' Castle uber glare might do the trick ;)  Thanks, John!

What I love more of this commission is the terrifying face... it remembers me vaguely a sort of skull make up ... and it makes me think that I have seen that face before... and this is soooo scary!

Huge congrats on this new one!

You can sense the saddness and anger in Frank on this!
