Descriptionthis spiderman piece was done like Todd Mcfarlane style by artist John Watson. I am a big fan of John Watson. I was first turned on to him when he did some cover artwork for DC comics on both Hawkman and the Justice society titles. He usually works in oils and is known for some of his JSA pieces that are a tribute to the Norman Rockwell style. he has worked for both Dc and Marvel (where he did the covers to the Inhumans Silent war miniseries as well as some Civil War and world war hulk covers. on this piece he captures Todd's Spiderman style to a T. the details are amazing. from the way spiderman is twisting and turning as he glides midair to the intricate knotting in the Webb work. to the background buildings and the people walking on the streets below. John has a way of capturing facial expressions in his work unlike any other. I have been looking for a good piece by John and I am happy to finally have one.Social/Sharing |

Such a bizarre piece to see from Watson when you're primarily familiar with his painted covers, as I am. But really cool nonetheless!

this piece really is out in left field for what john usually does. it was a commission for someone who I guess wanted as close to a Mcfarlane spidey page as you could get. it is a fantastic piece but I would rather see him doe somthing more his style. He doesn't have to take a back seat to any one. and those hawkman painted covers are amazing.

Very cool piece! Love the pose, all the extra webbing and the background detail. A really complete scene, well done.

thanks David. I am a huge john Watson fan and he did use every inch of this piece but it never looks busy or over crowded.

I think it's a wonderful homage to McFarlane, but adds a lot of extra oomph! I love it.
