Star*Reach was published by Mike Friedrich. The comic was intended for the same audiences that read Marvel and DC but distributed like underground comics.
Star*Reach was the forerunner of the independent comics and a pioneer in creator's rights.
Issue #1 contained stories by Chaykin, Jim Starlin, Walt Simonson and Steve Skeates. It was wildly successful, going into four printings.

Starbuck had rescued Evangeline, bride to be of Sir Gideon Pickett, Planetary Lord of Korul.
He then finds that his hated enemy Trachmann has betrayed Pickett and launched an invasion of Korul. Starbuck confronts Trachmann who tries to escape via a matter transmitter which Cody destroys and the resulting explosion kills Trachmann.
Unfortunately the capital city has already fallen, so Cody departs with Evangeline.
