Howard Beckerman & Carl Memling "Miss Chipps" - daily strip - June 1 1959

"Miss Chipps" was written by children's book author Carl Memling and drawn by animator Howard Beckerman, who worked on Popeye, Heckle and Jeckyll & Mighty Mouse. It was syndicated by the short-lived "Sponsored Comics," whose strips were available in a tabloid-style paper distributed to a few California supermarket chains (all this info is from the invaluable blog Stripper's Guide). The enterprise lasted about a year, 1959-60.

I love the modernist style of the drawing -- you don't see a lot of that style in comics from the era, and when you do the artist is usually from the animation world. The gag is also fun - a very particular little pet peeve from 1950s socializing.
