DescriptionA gorgeous depiction of the old school version of Poison Ivy.(I believe her flesh tone was still pink when this was commissioned. She does look like she’s pink anyway ;) While I LOVE anything drawn by Hamner, his con sketches can sometime be too quick with his marker strokes ending being too visible on the board for my taste. This one was either done at home and/or a charity piece. The inks or markers are not that visible here. His usual marker cross hatching technique leaving some blank areas works wonder on the tree’s shadow. She looks luscious. The pose is typical of classic good girl art. Her face is playful and I really like the body type Cully went with, a bit on the thick side, avoiding the usual popular flashy standards of the industry (think Mike Turner famished heroines ^^). The piece also has a slight Art Nouveau feel thanks to the great work on the vines and leaves and the simple but effective composition, in terms of how Cully used the space of the board. Lastly, as with any of the former Gaijin guys, the use of black and white is perfectly balanced and really makes the piece pop. It’s a much bigger piece (12 by 18 or 13 by 20) on super thick board. My intuition is that it used to be owned by one of reps we all know as a companion piece to the Deja Thoris I own (found here: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1391168). Really beautiful, "classic" piece, Fred - great call on the old school good girl vibe... It has a real Terry Moore feel to me as well; a beautiful, strong subject very tastefully depicted in a non-sensationalized, yet extremely lovely way. Great Cully pick up - congrats!

She's pretty as a daisy! But look out, man, she's crazy! She'll really do you in, if you let her under your skin.

Awesome. Some fine line work! Playful and sexy, but not too overt. Best kind of sexy. Congrats!

Hi FM, this used to be my piece. This was an at home commission set up by Robert Jewell. Took about a year or more to complete if I remember correctly. She was not flesh toned but always just black and white. I think Robert got Cully only to take on a handful of commissions which is why so few were like this. I remember it being too big for any of my portfolios. I hated to sell it, but I was forced to when I moved from the East Coast to New Mexico. I hope you enjoy it as much as I loved it.
