DescriptionJack Kirby is rightfully dubbed "The King" of comics. His influence was not only lengthy but also wide ranging as well (covering stints at in both DC and Marvel comics, amongst others). Pure pencil pieces by Kirby, however, are rare. That is why I am so glad to have obtained this illustration - and of one of his most famous characters at that.Social/Sharing |

A purely penciled Thor piece by "The King" is definitely a major collecting accomplishement. This is beautiful, congrats!

Amazing pose! Truly the King!
Many thanks, Jason! As mentioned, the special element in this illustration is that it is pure Kirby pencils.

In spite of this being a still image of Thor, there is a lot of movement going on with the figure, making it feel like far more than just a lifeless, "single character pinup". Hence why Kirby was KING!

Nice pick up! It's got all the dynamism you want in Kirby pencils and none of the Colletta inking : )

Actually Colletta's inks on Kirby's Thor were really quite good, come to think of it!

Sometimes, yeah, but let's just put it this way: if Colletta had inked this, it might have just ended up a bust shot : )

A modern myth maker of the highest order! Kirby's Thor brought power, majesty, and still had a trials and tribulations we could all identify with. This action pose shows all of this as he has a look on his face that he must face something more powerful and the only way to overcome this is by sheer will.
