DescriptionCover dated May 1986.I can't overstate the importance of Marvel Saga in my development as a Marvel fan. I picked up the first issue of Marvel Saga and the second issue (my first) of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe - Deluxe Edition at the same time from off of a spinner rack in a card store in late 1985. Both books were revelations to me, but Marvel Saga in particular jumped to the top of my must-read list every month. For those not familiar with it, Marvel Saga retold the history of the Marvel Universe from Fantastic Four #1 onwards. It used panels taken directly from classic Marvel comic books, and it contained new text written by Peter Sanderson to link the old comics together. For a 9 year-old kid fairly new to comics, this was a great way to learn about 1960s Marvel. While most of the artwork in Marvel Saga consisted of reprinted material, the title did contain some new art. This piece was the introductory splash page to issue #6, featuring new art by Al Milgrom based on the backup story in X-Men #44 by George Tuska and John Verpoorton. I was thrilled to get this important piece of my personal comic book history. Social/Sharing |

I never read that series (other than picking up issues here and there based on the cover artist) but I can see the appeal and the structure it provided for a curious yound mind delving into a totally new, unknown and too wide universe.
Fun nostalgia pick ;)

Every page to me is thrilling
But not from the cold
Some things are familiar
Like Dazeem, History not quite told
I can sense you there
Mutant friend remains unknown
I'm arriving
And I’m freezing to the bone
You have always hated torches
Cold secrets deep inside
You have secrets, too
But your gap’s spread out wide
Show yourself
I'm thighing to meet you
Show yourself
It's your turn
Are you Mutants Milgrom’s drawing for
All of my life?
Snow yourself
I got freezer burn
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah-ah
I've never read this version
Snowman life, I've seen porn
But I'm stiff for a reason
Could I be mutant when I was born?
I have always been so different
Thermal rules did not apply
Is this the day?
Are you the wai
I finally find out why?
Snow yourself
Closet mutant trembling
Here I am
I've come Saga
You are the freezer I've waited for
All Marvel life
Oh, snow yourself
Let me see who you are

This is the Frozen/Iceman crossover that fans have been clamoring for since the Disney/Fox deal was announced.

Books like this, combined with the Marvel Handbook and DC's Who's Who we're such a great gateway. Congrats.

Great piece, Michael! An unforgettable moment from X-Men #44, amped up and showcased nicely by Mr. Milgrom! And how amazing to have scored a pivotal piece from the headwaters of your own personal Nile? Wicked cool, sir, and a big part of what this fantastic hobby is all about, no? Love it! Congrats, Michael!

Marvel Saga was a big part of my early fandom as well. This is a great page, full of meaning, beautifully drawn by the versatile Al Milgrom.

Yup, Marvel Saga was big. Great title splash here, and as fan of Iceman, stemming from the '80s? Love this even more. Congrats, man!
