Description
Exploding planet illustration at its finest here by James Harren. Amazing how much of Harren's signature style comes through with this image. Just some lovely ink work and nice detail.

Want to send a big thank you to Chuck Arnold for this page. I picked this up during CAFCON22 in Columbus, and also hung out with Chuck over the course of the weekend. It was a great time and he is someone I am glad to call a friend. He is also extremely knowledgeable when it comes to comic art and comic history. If you ever run into him at a convention, stop and say hello, you won't regret it.

Is.  Was.  Who is paying attention to the details when planets are exploding.

The Harren world, it is explodin'
Darkseid's flarin', Desaad's tubin'
Use Anti-Life to kill, Cyborg infectin'
You don't believe it's war, but what's wrong with Red Robin'?
And even the DCeased Nightwing is a zombie roamin'

But you show me
Over and over and over again, Harren
How you don't believe
We're on the splash of destruction

What a great page! A fantastic example from a great series too. I must object, however, to you giving Chuck Arnold more money to buy Quitely art.

Believe it or not, he actually showed me the non Quitely commission that the funding went to! I assume it didn't go to the Quitely Foundation because it was only enough to purchase a wrinkled napkin sketch from him :) I did get a very long look at the portfolio though, along with some excellent stories of acquisition.

A lot of artists would take shortcuts when asked to depict an exploding planet. Not Harren. You can really feel the force of the explosion and see how it's fracturing the planet (Apokolips?).

Yep, Darkseid jumps into the core of Apokolips.
