DescriptionBig Milestone for the collectionI've been yearning for an oversized Arthur Adams masterpiece, especially one that features the X-Men. The perfect piece became available and I reached far for it. Arthur built such an illustrious career with so many memorable covers and stories. To this day, he keeps getting better and creates one masterpiece after another. I'm so happy to bring this one home. The original Dave Cockrum Special Edition cover is a classic but Arthur took it to a whole new level. This was the most I've spent on any artwork. Some may consider it to be a crazy amount for a modern piece (and one that was unpublished at the time of purchase), but my favorite pieces have been the ones I went over-the-top for. I don't make overspending a habit but I saw a "grail." I flew across the country to pick it up personally from Arthur. I had an unforgettable dinner with his family. And now, I spend every day examing every inch of this masterpiece. I want to thank Dave Cockrum for making a nostalgic cover; Arthur, Joyce, and Alex for providing me with a wonderful fan experience; and for the friends who supported me on this journey. I told another collector that when you're in the hobby long enough, you'll eventually come across your perfect pieces or grails. I hope everybody on CAF gets to experience that same excitement. There it is. The piece that made waves from the west coast, to the east coast, and out to Singapore. My Jaw still drops at such an awesome piece. Truly Congrats Larry!

Having had "the" Adams X-men poster on my wall as a kid I totally agree with you that this is a grail piece for sure! Major congrats my friend and I can only imagine how great it was to do dinner and pick this giant piece up in person. Worthy of all the FedEx boxes (and a nice frame)!

What an amazing piece and the layout by Arthur is exceptional here.
I never leave comments unless the person who posts the art takes the time to write a description. Knowing that you got to have dinner with Arthur and pick up the piece in person adds to the experience and really tells the story behind adding the piece to an already great collection. thanks for sharing the art and story behind it.

Wish I had gotten to see this before you left town, but I'm glad both you and the piece made it home safe and sound. I loved the story of how you've been staring at this every day since you got home. I had my AA New FF piece propped up at the foot of my bed for about a month so it would be the first thing I saw when I woke up. Anyway, enjoy this truly epic acquisition and congratulations again.

I've been kicking around ideas for a cover recreation from Art for years. I can't tell you why, but this one never crossed my mind. Congrats, it's perfect execution on an A+ selection.

Looks like it took him at least 6 months to complete this piece as the first in person look of the work in progress was in February 2022 at the East Bay Comic Con.

These oversized AA monster masterpieces will always be revered and sought after as grails. Art puts so much into these and each one is a beauty to behold.
